Vote For K9 Dax To Receive National Hero Dog Award

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- I'm sure by know you have heard the heroic stories of Lake County K9 Dax, and now the helpful canine may be receiving higher recognition.

Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg announced Friday that K9 Dax has made it into the final round of voting for the 2019 American Humane Hero Dog Award.

K9 Dax has helped the department and community numerous times and now he is in need of the Chicagoland's help to become the winner of his year’s national Hero Dog Award.

“It would be hard to find someone in Lake County who doesn’t know of the great work performed by our Canine Teams, especially K9 Dax and Deputy John Forlenza," Idleberg said in a statement. "They are one of the most beloved K9 Teams around because of their incredible work ethic and desire to serve the community.  K9 Dax and John have located numerous missing endangered people, countless suspects fleeing from crime scenes, and large amounts of contraband.  Even if they don’t come out victorious in this voting competition, they are certainly heroes in Lake County!”

K9 Dax began his career with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office nearly four years ago. According to the Sheriff's Office, Dax has been directly responsible for tracking and successfully apprehending over 70 suspects.  He also tracked and located dozens of missing or endangered children and adults.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department has used Dax for over 100 narcotic searches resulting in over 17 kilos of cocaine, heroin and other narcotics seized, hundreds of pounds of cannabis, approximately three quarters of a million dollars in currency, dozens of firearms, and seized vehicles.
