CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The 100 most popular dog names of 2018 have been announced and Chicago pooches sure make an impact on the overall list., which states themselves to be the largest network of pet sitters and dog walkers, announced the list of 100 Most Popular Male and Female Dog Names of 2018 after sorting through its database of more than a million dogs and determining which names are leading the litter. 

In addition to the overall list, broke down the popular names by major cities, including Chicago.

Top 5 Male Dog Names in Chicago

  2. Max (No. 1 on overall list)
  3. Cooper (No. 3 on overall list)
  4. Buddy (No. 4 on overall list)

Top 5 Female Dog Names in Chicago

  1. Bella (No. 1 on overall list)
  2. Lucy (No. 3 on overall list)
  3. Daisy (No. 4 on overall list)
  4. Luna (No. 2. on overall list)

The data also discovered trends in Chicago, as well as nationwide. Names inspired by Chicago sports rose 118 percent, with the name Butkus rising 100 percent and Ditka rising 300 percent. Other popular dog names stemmed from Chicago sports include Ernie Banks and Walter Payton. 

Nationwide, much like babies, dogs saw an increase in retro names like Minnie, Pearl, Willie, and Harry, which are up 17 percent over last year. Pop culture is also continuing to make an impact on pet names, representing 16 percent of the total dog names. These names stem from celebrity baby names like Luna and Milo, to music idols like Cardi and Gambino, to Sci-Fi and villains like Drax, Thor, Loki, and Bane. Fun fact: dogs named Pennywise increased 500 percent this year.

The Royals have also made an impact on dog names with names including Sophie, George, Prince, Charlotte and Harry. 

And if you are more of a foodie than a pop-culture person, don't worry, your dog names were noticed too. Five percent of all dog names are food-themed and brunch names are up 12 percent year over year. In addition to that, booze-themed names are up 17 percent year over year. Top alcohol-inspired dog names include Whiskey, Porter, Guinness, Brandy, and Amber.
