A 10th child has been pronounced dead in the wake of a fire early Sunday in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side that had already claimed the lives of nine other children.
The latest death was reported Monday. Previously, authorities said eight people had perished in the fire that swept through a residence in the 2200 block of South Sacramento Avenue.
Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader says the accident occurred Thursday night after a Ride the Ducks tourist boat reportedly sank on Table Rock Lake with more than 30 people on board.
A 52-year-old woman was hit by outbound train No. 603 at the Homewood station, located near the intersection of Ridge Road and Harwood Avenue, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.
The masked person fired six shots, striking the 33-year-old victim in the chest, thigh and right arm, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died.
