CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Park Forest Police Department is starting a campaign to bring a smile to the face of an officer wounded three years ago.

The Park Forest Police Department has been #TimStrong since March 19, 2016 when now 27-year-old Officer Tim Jones was shot in the line of duty and severely wounded.

He underwent a year of in-hospital rehab and is still said to be undergoing an intensive rehabilitation program.

The department said that, as the third anniversary of that shooting approaches, the Park Forest PD has gone on Facebook seeking a "flood" of support mail for Officer Jones.

"As you can see, years later we still get cards and letters of support for Tim here at the police station. And, as we approach the 3-year date since his courageous action, we want to show Officer Jones just how much he and his heroism mean to us and reminding him that he is always in our thoughts every single day," said an officer on the Facebook video.

"What we are asking is for you all to please flood Tim with letters, with cards, with notes showing that we are all still thinking about him, showing him we all still love him."
