NEW LENOX (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A person was hit by a Metra train Wednesday in southwest suburban New Lenox, disrupting service on part of the Rock Island District line during the morning commute.

Inbound train No. 506 fatally hit the person about 8:30 a.m. near Church Street in New Lenox, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

The train had departed Joliet for Chicago at 8:21 a.m., Miller said. Train movement remains halted in both directions near the site of the crash and no trains are operating between Joliet and New Lenox.

Trains are still operating between Mokena and Chicago, Miller said.
