CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A west Suburban golf course will host a viewing party for a highly anticipated celestial event this weekend.

"I think they're probably one of the coolest things, and they're also one of the most underrated things," said Jeremy Benson

Jeremy Benson with Northern Illinois University's STEM Outreach Program is referring to meteor showers. Experts said Sunday night will be the best to time catch a glimpse of the annual Perseid shower, the biggest of them all.

"Just knowing that we can predict when we're going to be able to look up in the sky and see all those shootings stars is unbelievable," Benson said. "If you believe in making wishes, I don't know why you wouldn't be out there that day."

The university is holding a free viewing party at the Bliss Creek Golf Course in Sugar Grove from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Benson said it will also feature a number of speakers.

"We talk about what's going on, what causes this shower, what causes the other meteor showers and let people know what to look for," he said.
