CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man was shot Tuesday after being chased on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the South Side.

The 46-year-old drove his 2002 Acura south onto the expressway at 55th Street Tuesday morning when he saw two vehicles chasing each other, Chicago police said. One of the vehicles, a black SUV, noticed the man, who police sources say is “known to police,” and started chasing him somewhere between 55th Street and 63rd Street. A person in the SUV fired shots, but did not hit anything.

The chase continued to the 99th Street/Halsted exit, where the man turned northbound onto Halsted, police said. The two vehicles drove for a few more blocks before the SUV passed the Acura in the 9600 block of South Halsted and someone got out and fired more shots.

The man was struck in the left shoulder at 1:22 a.m. and flagged down officers a block away, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center where his condition was stabilized.

The offenders continued northbound on Halsted after the shooting, police said. No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
