CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man from Kane County is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the safe return of a lost deer.

Abigail is a five-month-old fawn who ran away from a farm in Hampshire last week.  A storm drove a branch onto her enclosure.

Owner Marty Gerdisch said the search has been exhausting.

"I'm sad. It bothers me a lot. I can't sleep. I look for her in the middle of the night. I get up. Any time I hear something, I get up and I'm out there," Gerdisch said.

But he suspects that she's nearby.

"I'm assuming she's within a quarter mile radius. Which sounds far but if you've walked the fields as much as I have in the last few days it's not a big deal," Gerdisch said.

She's tannish-brown with a purple collar and tag on her ear. He said she knows her name and is very friendly.

It is archery season for deer hunters, but since Abigail is rather small, Gerdisch suspects hunters would leave her alone.

Gerdisch is offering a $500 reward for information on her whereabouts. Anyone with information can call (847) 361-5025.
