CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man was found dead at the bottom of a staircase Monday in an apartment building in South Shore.

A passerby found the 39-year-old about 10:50 p.m. at a building in the 7200 block of South Phillips Avenue, Chicago police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither police nor the Cook County medical examiner’s office have determined a cause of death. However, the man was found with a deep laceration to his leg and blood coming from his nose, police said.

Autopsy results are pending as of Tuesday afternoon, the medical examiner’s office said.

Area Central detectives are conducting a death investigation.
