CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Harvey Police are looking for the man who shot a young couple on Wednesday, killing a 20-year-old man and critically injuring his 18-year-old girlfriend, who is two months pregnant.

It happened at 1:30 p.m. as the pair walked into their home near 146th Street and South Green.

Police Chief Gregory Thomas said the unidentified suspect had been involved in an altercation recently with 20-year-old Jalyn Jackson over a stolen car.

“This is not a random incident, but more so a targeted incident,” the chief said.

The suspect had been following Jackson and his girlfriend, Mazaree Lambert, who is two months pregnant.

“Apparently he was being stalked, both our victims were being stalked by our suspect," Thomas said.

The suspect approached as they were walking into their home and opened fire.

Jackson died of multiple gunshot wounds.  Lambert was critically injured.

It happened at the home of Mazaree Lambert’s father, Russell Lambert.

“Never in all the years I’ve been a father I would expect something like this to happen,” he said during a news conference at Harvey police headquarters.

He asked the gunman to “have a heart. And just turn yourself in.”

Mazaree Lambert remains critical but stable, her father said.  He said they’re not sure whether the baby will survive.

The chief said the gunman wore a distinctive-looking dark jacket with white stripe down both sleeves.

Chief Thomas asked that anyone who thinks they might be able to help with the investigation to call the Harvey Police Department’s tip line at 708-331-2131.
