1 Dead, 1 Critically Hurt In Stevenson Crash Between Car, Semi: Police

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- One person was killed and another was critically injured in a crash between a car and a semi truck early Monday on the Stevenson Expressway on the Southwest Side.

A 1994 Saturn sedan was stopped in the far right lane of southbound I-55 about 3:25 a.m. near Kedzie Avenue when it was rear-ended by the 2018 International semi, according to a statement from Illinois State Police.

The driver and passenger in the Saturn had to be extricated from the wreck and were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where the passenger was pronounced dead, state police said. The driver was in critical condition.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released information about the crash.

The driver of the semi was not injured, state police said.

The far right lane of the outbound Stevenson was closed for investigation for several hours, but all lanes were reopened by 8:53 a.m., state police said.
