CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Early voting in Chicago’s municipal elections gets underway Tuesday at one downtown location.

State law said early voting should have started Jan. 17, but Jim Allen, spokesman for the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners said it will begin at the Loop Super Site, 175 West Washington, on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. And he said it’s still earlier than ever.

"We are going to start 29 days before Election Day. The most we ever had before in this election was 22 days. It's usually 15 days, so this is still - despite this 40 day law, which is impractical on many fronts - this is still going to be a great amount of time," he said.

Early voting begins in all 50 Wards on Feb. 11.

Allen said with bad weather and lots of undecided voters, he expects voting by mail to really pick up this time.
