CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The back-to-school season is near, but before the kids head back to school, why not take a trip to Brookfield Zoo?

Brookfield Zoo announced Thursday that they are offering Kids’ Free Days on Aug. 5-7.

Kids' Free Days is presented by AMITA Health and Groupon. From Aug. 5-7, AMITA Health will be on-site offering a variety of family-friendly activities from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. throughout the zoo including the chance to explore the inside of an ambulance, try a health snack, meet some of the zoo’s animal ambassadors, and engage in other fun, health-related activities.

It is also a perfect time to visit the zoo’s popular summer exhibit, Brick Safari that features more than 40 life-size animal sculptures created from more than 1.6 million individual colored LEGO bricks.

And if LEGO's are not your thing, there are a few real-life creatures that you will have the chance to see before the season is over, including Snowflake, the zoo’s albino alligator, before it heads back to Floria, and butterflies in the Butterflies! habitat, before it closes for the year on Sept. 2.

"So before the start of the new school year, bring the family to the zoo for a 'staycation' adventure to see some amazing animals and to receive free admission for children ages 11 and under," the zoo said in a statement.

On Kids’ Free Days, Brookfield Zoo will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission for adults is $21.95 and $15.95 for seniors 65 and over. Parking is $14. For further information and to plan your visit, check out
