CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A woman is in the hospital for observation after she barricaded herself inside a room with her 5-year-old daughter on Monday morning in a Lawndale apartment.

Police said a 31-year-old woman locked herself inside an apartment with the girl at 6:18 a.m. at 18th and Springfield on the West Side.

Police said they received a call for a domestic disturbance around 6 a.m. Monday morning. The SWAT team was called in 20 minutes later.

Armentha Moore lives nearby. She said she didn't know anything was amiss until the SWAT team showed up.

"When I saw that big ugly truck, I knew there was something wrong.  I had never seen one before," Moore said.

The woman was restrained and removed from the apartment just after 8 a.m.

She was taken by ambulance to Stroger hospital for observation.  The five year old girl was not hurt, but taken to the hospital as a precaution. Two weapons were found in the apartment.
