CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A group of Democratic women is hoping to make its political presence felt in some Illinois legislative races now underway.

The move comes in the wake of conservative judge Brett Kavanaugh taking his seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Jennifer Lee, co-president of Illinois Democratic Women, said “Women Are The Blue Wave” is a joint effort between her organization and Personal PAC. The aim is to mobilize women who’ve been marching and rallying for their rights to get out the vote and support candidates in potential swing Statehouse districts.

She said the movement is bi-partisan, but that may be a hard sell in red districts, where the aim is to turn them to blue. But Lee said women who care about preserving their rights will be interested in electing candidates who support them.
