CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police say a woman is cooperating with investigators who are checking out her fatal shooting of a man: a 19-year-old who was trying to rob her on the Far South Side early Tuesday.

Police said the 25-year-old woman was standing on the corner in the 500 block of West 103rd Street around 6 a.m. when a man tried to rob her.

Police Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the woman, who had a valid concealed carry license, shot the man in the neck. The man fled and was found about a block away; he was later pronounced dead.

"We did not recover a gun from the scene. Detectives are investigating whether the offender took the gun when he fled after he was shot,” Guglielmi said.

"So, we have a timeline we're building. The victim is extremely cooperative, and we're going to present a very strong and prudent investigation to the state's attorney to determine if any criminal charges are applicable or warranted."
