CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayoral candidate Willie Wilson is blaming incumbent Mayor Rahm Emanuel for a series of problems plaguing the Chicago Public Schools system.

As CPS officials are trying to handle scandals involving sexual abuse of students and unclean conditions in some schools, Wilson said Mayor Emanuel has no one but himself to blame.

“He hand-picked his people to run the schools,” Wilson said.

Wilson said he favors an elected school board instead of having mayoral appointees.

Also, he promises to reopen some of the dozens of schools closed under the Emanuel administration.

Wilson is the guest on "At Issue," airing 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
