Snow Belts Chicago Area

April 14, 2019 - 10:17 am

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Wet snow is accumulating across the Chicago region Sunday morning, with unseasonably cold temperatures locked in until Monday.

The unexpectedly robust snowfall is also causing headaches for motorists traveling in the slick conditions.

Snow totals as of noon Sunday ranged from 6 inches in DeKalb, 3 inches at O'Hare International Airport to 1 inch in Schaumburg.

There will be no baseball Sunday in Chicago. The Cubs postponed their afternoon game with the Los Angeles Angels at Wrigley Field (the White Sox are out of town, playing the Yankees).

The city of Chicago’s Aviation Department said airlines at O’Hare had cancelled more than 500 flights, with some delays for arrivals and departures.

There were 47 cancellations at Midway.

A slight warmup on Monday will melt whatever snow sticks around. Temperatures will hit the 50s.

Sunday's high was only expected to reach 39 degrees. Take heart, though: Temps should reach the low-70s by mid-week.
