BATAVIA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- In this day and age of physical distancing from one another, a yearly Easter-time tradition will be taking on a new look this weekend in the far western suburbs.

The Easter bunny will be in Batavia for kids for one hour on Sunday.

"It’s just a drive-by thing. Just wave at the bunny as you drive by, so everybody stays safe and healthy," said Maddie Dixon.

She said the idea was born after her husband, Kyle, dressed up in a bunny costume for their young daughter.

"When I posted it on my personal Facebook page, yeah, people were commenting, our friends— and saying, 'so lucky, she’s so lucky to be able to see the bunny' and then we kind of just came up with the idea that, we wanted to be able to share it with other people," Dixon said.

So that other kids won’t feel left out, the Easter Bunny will stand outside the Dixon’s Batavia house on Wagner Road on Sunday between 3-4 p.m. waving at children being driven by.
