Warning, Lagoon Denizen: 'Taste' Features Gator Sausage

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Maybe there's a reason the alligator hiding out in Humboldt Park Lagoon is keeping such a low profile.

Among the vendors at this year's Taste of Chicago food festival is Chicago's Dog House, which is serving alligator sausages.

The gourmet Alligator Sausage comes covered in carmelized onions and a sweet Asian chili sauce. It costs 18 tickets (about $13) for a full sausage on a bun, or a taste can be had for 6 tickets.

Chicago has been fascinated by the search for the 4- to 5-foot-long alligator that was reported earlier this week in the Humboldt Park Lagoon. The hunt has drawn hundreds of curious people, though experts say that could actually be scaring the creature.

Authorities want to trap the alligator -- which may have been someone's pet before growing too big for them -- and transport it to a zoo for a checkup.

Twitter pages devoted to the alligator have sprung up.
