SYCAMORE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Interested in spending some time in jail, as opposed to DOING time?

It's billed as "An Evening in Jail.” DeKalb County government is inviting the public to pay $40 for about three hours at the new soon-to-open jail facility in Sycamore.

"It's really an operational test for us, as minor as it might be,” DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said. “But it's a good thing to see and if some things don't work, we have plenty of time to get it fixed."

Scott said participants must have a background check before the evening in jail on Friday, June 1.

"They'll go through the booking process. They'll be in the cells. They'll be using the facilities. And they'll get served a jail meal."

The sheriff said: “No bread and water that night.”

The $40 will go to charity.

Sheriff Scott said they're expecting about 50 people. So far, 12 have signed up.
