CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A weekend incident in which Chicago police pulled two African-American women from a car at a Northwest Side shopping mall has a coda: A bystander struck an officer moments later and was arrested.

The battery of the officer was caught on the same Facebook livestream video, posted by ChiJem James Smith, but this moment was only beginning to receive attention on Friday.

It’s the latest wrinkle to a highly scrutinized police response to looting at the Brickyard Mall on Sunday as Chicago was rocked by George Floyd demonstrations and disturbances that included vandalism and fires.

Two women in a vehicle say they were terrorized by police officers after being stopped in the parking lot. Video shows one of the women being pulled out of the car and being pinned to the ground, as bystanders rush to the scene and question the actions of officers.

The two women from the car, Tnika Tate and Mia Wright, say they plan to file a civil suit against the city, and investigations are underway to determine whether police acted appropriately.

A young woman with a pink backpack is among the bystanders seen as police converge on the curbed car. Moments later, as the camera is still rolling, she has a verbal confrontation with officers in another part of the parking lot.

She moves away but then quickly walks back over and strikes or slaps one of the police officers, who is staggered by the blow. Police officers take the young woman to the ground, as members of a crowd yell at them.

Chicago Police said officers were trying to disperse the crowd when the attack on the cop occurred. The officer who was hit declined medical attention.

Jordan Zamudio, 19, was charged with felony aggravated battery to a peace officer and disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. She is on electronic home detention and is scheduled to make a court appearance June 9.

Chicago police declined further comment, saying the incident is under investigation.
