CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The University of Chicago is planning a virtual convocation ceremony in June rather than holding an in-person event.

It’s another example of an educational institution adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood announced the virtual ceremony will take place June 13 to confer degrees on the Class of 2020.

The university expects to deliver the physical diploma to each student as possible afterward.

In addition to the virtual convocation, the university is inviting the Class of 2020 to return to campus in June 2021.
