CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It's been a fixture in Wrigleyville for decades: Yesterday, the nostalgia shop "where past meets present."

Yesterday's owner died Monday morning at age 88.

For 43 years, Yesterday has stood in the 1100 block of West Addison. The old building has been leaning ever-so-slightly to the west -- and not so slightly in recent years.

Tom Boyle opened the shop in 1976. WBBM Newsradio talked with him last year for a “Made in Chicago” feature.

"As a collector myself, as a youth I collected a lot of things and they piled up and finally we had so much stuff, I would go to shows and try to eliminate some of them,” he told reporter Steve Miller. “But I would actually come back with even more material.

"So, finally I thought, why not share it with somebody else and let them have as nice a time as I did? And so I decided to open the store."

Boyle was born on the West Side. A lifelong Chicagoan, he worked at his shop almost until the end.

One of Boyle's friends says they'll try to keep Yesterday the store going for awhile.
