CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Kick off the unofficial start of summer this Memorial Day Weekend by attending one of the great events the Chicagoland area has to offer. 

From food festivals and fireworks to music and baseball, there is truly something for everyone.

Here's a look at things to do this weekend in and around Chicago.

Memorial Day Parade

Chicago's Memorial Day Parade honors all men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. The Wreath Laying Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at Daley Plaza. The parade steps off at noon and proceed south on State Street from Lake Street to Van Buren Street. Crowds line the street, waving flags and paying their respects to members of our armed services as part of this Chicago tradition, which dates all the way back to 1870. Major General Marion Garcia, Commanding General, 200th Military Police Command, United States Army Reserve, will serve as this year’s Grand Marshal. 

Where: State St. from Lake St. to Van Buren

When: Saturday, Wreath Laying Ceremony begins at 11 a.m.; Parade begins at noon

Aon Summer Fireworks at Navy Pier

Let sparks fly this Memorial Day Weekend! Navy Pier kicks off their summer firework series on Saturday. The show typically lasts about 15 minutes, so don't be late.

Where: Navy Pier, 600 E Grand Ave

When: Saturday, 10:15 p.m.

Bike The Drive

The most unique bike ride you’ll take all year. Have you ever dreamed of cruising down Lake Shore Drive on your bicycle? Bike the Drive makes that dream a reality for one day a year. Whether you’re new to biking or a seasoned veteran, you’ll find Fifth Third Bike the Drive an event to remember—nearly five hours of car-free riding while enjoying breathtaking views of the city and the lake.

Belmont-Sheffield Music Festival

Say hello to the unofficial start of Chicago’s summer street fest season! Belmont-Sheffield Music Fest is one of the first of many Chicago summer street festivals. This popular Memorial Day weekend party takes place on Sheffield Avenue in the bustling Lakeview neighborhood just steps from the Belmont El station. The festival features top local tribute bands on the main stage, great eats, drinks, artisans and a second stage featuring entertainment booked by neighborhood venues.

Where: On Sheffield from Belmont to Roscoe St.

When: Saturday & Sunday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Mole Sauce

Mole de Mayo

Pilsen's annual Mole de Mayo street festival honors the traditional Mexican sauce, hosting an array of local vendors who serve variations of dish. This year, Mole de Mayo will be celebrating its 10th anniversary! Local chefs and restaurants will face off against one-another to find out whose version of the Mexican staple dish in the best in the city. Meanwhile, an open-air mercado/market will be filled to the brim with local businesses and crafters, while music, dancing, and live Lucha Libre create a truly unique atmosphere.

Chicago Athletic Association Skate Nights

The Chicago Athletic Association hotel turns 4 this May! To celebrate, the CAA is inviting you to a two-night Skate Birthday Party at The Track, our pop-up Roller Rink inside Stagg Court. During each two-hour session, guests will be able to strap on some skates and dance to tunes provided by a DJ or participate in lip sync battles (on wheels). Bring your own skates or rent a pair for $5 and enjoy a complimentary cocktail from Apologue Liquers as well as birthday cake from Cindy's.

Lane Tech Memorial Day Carnival

What better way to kickoff summer then at a carnival? Jump on your favorite carnival ride at Lane Tech this weekend. Admission to the event is free, but you'll need to purchase ride tickets (or a wristband good for unlimited rides) if you want to take a spin on any of the attractions.

Where: Lane Tech College Prep High School, 2501 W. Addison St. 

When: Friday, 4-10 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday, noon-10 p.m.; Monday, noon-8 p.m.

Cost: Free, unlimited rides $25–$30

Mayfestiversary 

Cheers with some beers this weekend as Dovetail and Begyle team up for an old-fashioned block party over Memorial Day weekend. All proceeds benefit local nonprofit the Friendship Center.
