CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Saturday marks the official first day of fall, and with that brings all the fall festivals, from Oktoberfests to beer and wine tastings, plus apple picking, pumpkin picking, corn mazes and harvest fests.

Here's a look at things to do this weekend in and around Chicago.

Chicago World Music Festival & World Dumpling Festival

Celebrate the glory of the dumpling in its many forms—pot stickers, empanadas, pierogi and more—at World Dumpling Fest. The one-day event includes tastings from a wide variety of Chicago restaurants as well as live music, cultural art vendors and dance performances. Global sounds and flavors are brought to the Polk Bros Park Performance Lawns from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Hosted by the Chicago Cultural Alliance, the festival is free to attend, but guests will have to pay for pillowy morsels. BeerHoptacular

One of the Chicago's most expansive craft beer festivals sets up in a helicopter hanger this year, offering more beer, more attitude and more. With over 150 different brews to taste over the course of an afternoon, the Beerhoptacular also features a homebrew competition, Chicago’s favorite food trucks, DJs spinning vinyl, a beer bicycle, a live photo booth, plus a live insult booth where you can take out your frustration and many more attractions.

Eataly Chicago’s SeptemberFest

Eataly Chicago will host SeptemberFest, the third annual all-inclusive food and drink event on September 21st. For one night only, ticketholders will have access to unlimited food, drinks and entertainment. This year’s participating restaurants include CH Distillery, Blackbird, BomboBar, and Bohemian House. SeptemberFest will also feature live music, a DJ, and other entertainment including hands-on mozzarella making, opening wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano, pouring large bottles of Italian vino and more.

Laver Cup

The Laver Cup is a three-day tournament pitting a team of six of the best tennis players from Europe against six of their counterparts from the rest of the world. Björn Borg is captain of Team Europe and John McEnroe is captain of Team World. The 2018 edition of the Laver Cup will take place at the United Center in Chicago from September 21-23, 2018. The tournament will feature some of the best tennis players in the world such as Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Juan Del Potro.

MSI After Hours: Get Animated

The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) is hosting an animation-themed party on Friday, September 21. MSI After Hours: Get Animated celebrates the interesction of art and science, giving guests access to MSI’s latest exhibit, The Science Behind Pixar. Guests can also attend an exclusive conversation with the creators of the newest Pixar short, “Bao.” MSI After Hours: Get Animated is an adults-only event. Guests can enjoy cocktails, beer, snacks and more than a dozen MSI exhibits throughout the evening.

Long Grove Apple Fest

One of the Midwest’s biggest tributes to apple season takes place in Historic Downtown Long Grove. Apple Fest brings “bushels of fun” to the charming village it’s called home for 27 consecutive years. From caramel apples to apple tempura, Apple Fest’s claim-to-fame are the hundreds of delicious apple-inspired treats for apple lovers young and old.  As always with a Long Grove festival, live music will play out all weekend long on two stages spread throughout fest grounds.

Broken Oar’s Oartoberfest – Concert Series

Oartoberfest is back at the Broken Oar. Come out for three days filled with German food, fun, and fare!! Featuring live music by your favorite bands including ARRA, TNT Chicago, Kashmir, and Modern Day Romeos.

Closing Day: Drink Arlington Dry

Join in on Arlington’s final fay of the racing season and place your final Arlington International bets of the year. Harvest Fest

The event kicks off Saturday morning with a Harvest Hustle 5K and 1-mile run at 9 a.m., followed by Farm Heritage Days, with farming demos, tractor displays and kids’ activities and crafts, food and entertainment on and Sunday. An Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday night from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. includes German-style food, beer and entertainment

Park Ridge Wine Walk

Sip your favorite glass of vino this fall and join in for the Park Ridge Wine Walk. Attendees will receive a passport to visit each participating business. When a completed passport is turned in, you will receive a raffle ticket to win several prizes. Attendees will receive a wristband, wineglass and a Swag Bag.
