CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – August may be coming to a close, but there are still plenty of activities going on in Chicago to enjoy the final weeks of summer.  

From food and wine, to art and music, the Chicagoland area has no shortage of events this weekend. And if you are already ready for fall, the Chicago Bears have their preseason home opener on Saturday versus the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here's a look at things to do this weekend in and around Chicago.

Taste of Greektown

It’s time to do the Kalamatianós, otherwise known as the circle dance, because Taste of Greektown returns for its 29th year in Chicago. Get ready to feast on gyros, kabobs, saganaki and more! Plus there is live music and activities for the kids.

Where: Greektown, Halsted & Van Buren Streets (400 S. Halsted St.)

When: Friday, 4-11 pm.; Saturday & Sunday, noon-11 p.m.

Logan Square Food Truck Social

For its third year, food trucks are rolling back into Logan Square for the neighborhood Food Truck Social – but this year, there is a bigger emphasis on music. The Logan Square Food Truck Social promises more of the same delicious mobile eats paired with cold beer and even bigger and badder tunes. Renowned live acts include Palm, The Men, Prefuse73 and more.

Where: Humboldt Blvd between Armitage & 606 Trail (1857 N Humboldt Blvd)

When: Friday, 5-10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Wizard World Chicago Comic Con

It might sound like a Harry Potter convention, but Wizard World is an event that celebrates every facet of pop culture, including comic books, film and television. A convention center in Rosemont hosts the annual gathering, where attendees can line up for autographs or shop for merchandise amid a sea of vendors. Be sure to check the schedule of when to see your favorite special guest.

Entertainment, food, a carnival, and crafters…may we say more? Geurin Prep is throwing their annual GuerinFest this weekend. The musical entertainment includes ARRA, Kashmir, Big Sugar Country, Smokin' Gunz, Dixie Crush, R-Gang and Generation.

Out of Space: Big Evanston Block Party

Chicago's neighbors to the north throw an end of the summer blow-out at the Big Evanston Block Party, which take place on the city's main drag. The street festival is headlined by stalwart indie-rock act Guided By Voices and alt-country outfit the Old 97s.

When: Saturday, 1 p.m.

35th Annual Port Clinton Art Festival

More than 300 of the world’s most celebrated artists come together to showcase their work over the course of the weekend. Also, a youth art division celebrates the talents of young artists ages 18 and under. The fest includes live music featuring Cirrus Falcon, kid-friendly activities, artist demonstrations and more.

City of Lights Ukulele Festival

The Midwest’s finest ukulele artists in downtown Aurora, with performances, workshops and open mike. Featured artists include Lil’ Rev, Gerald Ross, Lanialoha Lee, The Fabulous Heftones, Hix Bros Ukulele Band, the Beatleleles, Hula O Puanini with Hoapili and more.

Naperville Wine Festival

Over 200 wines from around the world will be featured at the Naperville Wine Festival. Tasting seminars, cooking demonstrations and live music are all a part of the fun. A portion of the festival’s proceeds will benefit the Naperville Area Humane Society.

Downtown Palatine Street Fest

Downtown Palatine Street Fest has been the premier suburban street festival since 2000. Enjoy live bands, local food, bingo, plus a Kids Zone.

Where: Brockway and Slade Streets (north of Palatine Road between Plum Grove Road and Smith Street)
