CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 15-year-old male suspect has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the Halloween night shooting of 7-year-old girl who was trick-or-treating with her family in the Little Village neighborhood.

Chicago police say the unnamed teen was the person who pulled the trigger in the 3700 block of West 26th Street around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Hit by gunfire was the costumed 7-year-old, who police say was not the intended target. She was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and reportedly was making progress in her recovery.

Also injured was a 31-year-old man, who was shot in the hand, police said.

The juvenile suspect was taken into police custody early Friday, according to Chicago police. He faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm.

Appearing in court Saturday, the teen's attorney said the suspect did not do the alleged crime. The judge ordered the teen remain in custody until his next hearing on Nov. 4.
