(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Teachers, working without a contract in Geneva, picketed outside the school board meeting Monday.

Community members who stand behind District 304 teachers joined them in the picket line, hoping to encourage the board to move forward on a contract.

Geneva Education Association president Kevin Gannon said teachers can now legally go on strike, but they don't want to move in that direction.

Gannon says additional negotiating sessions are already set for later this month. The way that salary is determined continues to be a sticking point.

School District 304 includes nine schools in Geneva.

Gannon said right now teachers in District 304 are among the lowest paid, despite having the best schools in Kane County.
