CHICAGO RIDGE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The driver accused in the hit-and-run death of a 15-year-old girl this week had been arrested the night before for stealing alcohol from behind a bar, Chicago Ridge Police said.

Police said that 25-year-old Edward Cruz was arrested at a bar in Merrionette Park on Sunday night and charged with theft and that he reached behind the bar to drink from bottles of alcohol.

Authorities say Cruz bonded out late Sunday night.

Then, on Monday, police said he was driving erratically in Oak Lawn and in Chicago Ridge. This led up to the crash near Richards High School that killed a 15-year-old freshman, they said. The girls was identified as Amira Nairat.

Police in Chicago Ridge are asking anyone with information about Cruz's whereabouts after the bar incident and before the fatal crash to contact authorities.

Cruz is charged with DUI counts and hit-and-run involving a death.
