CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A woman was fatally struck by a Red Line train Thursday in Englewood while trying to retrieve her phone after dropping it on the tracks.

The woman dropped the phone about 12:40 p.m. at the 69th Street station, 15 W. 69th St., according to Chicago police and fire officials.

She climbed down to get it and was hit by an approaching northbound train, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was identified as 37-year-old Felon Smith of the Marquette Park neighborhood, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy released Friday found she died of multiple injuries from being struck by a train, the medical examiner’s office said. Her death was ruled accidental.

Red Line service was suspended for over two hours, the Chicago Transit Authority said.
