LAPORTE COUNTY, IND. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- She's only 16 years old but has had a sit-down with Indiana Department of Transportation officials and an Indiana state representative.

In February 2007, Elle Kimmel's father was on U.S. Route 30 near County Road 600 West in LaPorte County when his car slid and he was struck by a semitrailer during a winter storm.  He died, leaving behind his wife, as well as Kimmel, who was 4 years old, and her 18-month-old brother.

According to the Times of Northwest Indiana, the now 16 year old said she wants that stretch of road to be made safer.

She has apparently done her homework.

The paper said Indiana State Rep. Jim Pressel, a Republican from Rolling Prairie, was impressed with her fact-filled speech and INDOT is researching and determining what is feasible and what's not.
