CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A pedestrian was injured in a vehicle crash Tuesday in Gold Coast on the Near North Side.

At about 2:50 a.m., a 2003 Toyota Corolla, driven by an adult male, was traveling east on Chestnut Street when it clipped a 2017 Hyundai traveling west in the first block of East Chestnut Street, Chicago police said.

The driver of the Toyota veered right and jumped onto the sidewalk, striking an adult male pedestrian, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the Toyota remained on scene, police said.

The crash appears to be alcohol related and a DUI investigation is underway.
