May 31, 2019 - 9:32 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police are investigating after a woman apparently stabbed a man to death before hanging herself Thursday in west suburban Cicero.

Leonardo Vargas, 47, was found dead with multiple stab wounds at 10:22 p.m. in the 1400 block of South Central Avenue, according to Cicero police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the same block.

An autopsy Friday found Vargas died of a stab wound to the chest and ruled his death a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Janette Ramirez, 41, hanged herself nearby, police and the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy found she died of asphyxiation and ruled her death a suicide. She also lived in Cicero.

Detectives are investigating the case as a murder-suicide and police said they “do not believe there is a danger to the community at this time.”
