CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago man died Friday after a four-vehicle crash involving a semi on Interstate 90 in northwest suburban Des Plaines.

The semi was westbound on I-90 about 8 a.m. when it hit a blue Jeep Patriot that was stopped near milepost 74.2 due to a traffic jam, according to Illinois State Police.

The impact caused the Jeep to lurch forward and hit a white Chevrolet Sonic, which hit a red Nissan Titan, police said.

The driver of the Jeep, 54-year-old Andrew Szimon Jr., was taken to a hospital where he died about two hours later, police said.

No one else was injured in the crash, though one man was hospitalized due to emotional distress, police said.

State police did not immediately say whether the truck driver would face citations or charges.
