ST. CHARLES (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A west suburban Aurora man has been charged with sexually abusing two children more than a decade ago.

Michael G. Bishop, 47, is accused of sexually abusing two family members, who were younger than 13 at the time, between 2008 and 2011, according to a statement from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

“The victims in this case asked that we identify their relationship to the defendant to encourage other potential victims to come forward,” Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said in the statement.

“They also want other survivors of sexual abuse to know that it is important to disclose abuse to hold offenders accountable,” he said. “I am deeply grateful for their courage in talking about their abuse and hope others are empowered to do the same no matter when the abuse occurred.”

Bishop is charged with one felony count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and 14 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, prosecutors said.

He is facing similar charges involving the same victims in DeKalb and Kendall counties, prosecutors said.

Bishop’s bail was set at $100,000 during a hearing Thursday and his next court date is scheduled for June 30, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
