2 Hurt In Shooting On Dan Ryan Expressway

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two people were shot Sunday on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chatham on the South Side.

The shooting happened about 12:12 a.m. on Interstate 94 near 79th Street, according to a statement from Illinois State Police Trooper Mindy Carroll.

Someone heard gunshots before seeing a vehicle swerve in the northbound lanes and crash on the ramp to 79th Street, Carroll said.

The caller saw three people get out of the vehicle and run, Carroll said.

State police were later notified that a male and a female were shot and the hospital to speak with them about the shooting, state police said. Their injuries are expected to not be life-threatening.

All northbound lanes on the Dan Ryan from 79th Street to 76th Street were shut down for about an hour as officers investigated, state police said. They reopened about 3:15 a.m.

No one is in custody and the shooting remains under investigation, state police said.
