(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Every evening since St. Patrick’s Day, an Elmhurst man has stood at the edge of his backyard and played the bagpipes to keep people’s spirits up.

WBBM’s Steve Miller reports.

Every sunset, neighbors along Illinois Prairie Path come out to listen.

"People will start texting me 10 minutes before, ‘Hey, are you playing tonight? Are you sure you’re going to play? We’re coming down if you’re playing.’”

Brian Costello says he and other members of the Shannon Rovers were disappointed when their trip to Ireland got cancelled.

“My wife said, ‘Why don’t you go play in the backyard for the neighbors?’

“And I’m like, ‘OK, I’m going to do that because I’m feeling sad.’ So, I went back there, and I played the set that we learned to play in Dublin. A lot of people just really liked it on Facebook."

Costello said they encouraged him to make it a nightly event, "to kind of raise spirits for people."

“That’s what I’ve been kind of doing.”
