CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The 10th District police station on Chicago’s West Side is hosting a show-and-tell on Thursday and Friday, hoping to get tools taken in burglaries back to their owners.

There are power tools and hand tools - about 140 of them - recovered from a West Side industrial yard and large building along with stolen cars, motorcycles and large-scale landscaping equipment.

Sergeant Keith Blair with the Major Auto Theft Unit said it was all recovered from the area of Chicago Avenue and 5th Avenue, where police executed search warrants.

He said they believe the stolen items were being stored there, not sold.

“We recovered all these items as well as stolen vehicles, stolen motorcycles, stolen trailers and large-scale landscape equipment, as well," Blair said.

Blair said they’ve identified a handful of victims, so far.

“It’s going to result in probably at least 20 burglaries that this recovery represents," he said.

Blair said they’ve identified suspects.

They are not in custody. There was nobody at the location when police executed the search warrants.

If you’re missing tools or heavy equipment, and you can prove it, you might find them at the 10th District police station.

The items will be on display Thursday and Friday until 6 p.m.

Blair said bring a police report or photographs or some evidence that proves the equipment belongs to you.
