(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A dog that was taken from a sidewalk in the River North neighborhood a month ago after her owner stopped to pick up some food was tracked down in Wisconsin.

WBBM’s Mike Krauser reports.

When James Perry was reunited with his dog, Caela, it was hard to tell which of the two was more excited. Cell-phone video shows the reunion at the Humane Society in Osh Kosh.

Social media is being credited with bringing about the reconnection.

After the 17-month-old German Shepherd mix was stolen outside a restaurant last month, a Facebook group was formed – Help Find Caela. It had more than 1,500 followers.

One of the followers reportedly recognized the dog with a Chicago man before he moved to Osh Kosh a couple of weeks ago. He was tracked down and police in Wisconsin checked the microchip in the dog for positive ID, and took the dog to the Humane Society.

Perry picked her up.

Osh Kosh police say the man who took the dog thought it was abandoned and was doing the right thing by bringing it home.

Caela's  owner is refusing to press  charges.
