CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- People across the Chicago area are finding various ways to stay cool, but some people on the South Side might have found the best option available.

While the temperatures soared outside, you needed a jacket to ward off the chill inside the ice rink at the Morgan Park Sports Center.

Jim Deacy came over from Evergreen Park to cool off in perhaps the coolest spot in town. He said the rink a great place to get his exercise while staying cool despite the heat outside.

Another skater asked where else for just a couple of bucks can you have a fun time while really beating the heat?

Jim Klenk lives downtown near Millennium Park but said the drive to 115th and Western was worth it for a chance to ice skate despite the oppressive heat.

He said just one thing was missing. Klenk when he usually goes and skates, there are women who practice their figure skating at Morgan Park.

"We are let down some of the ladies aren't here," Klenk said. "Some of the ladies are working on their figure skating routines and they improve the situation."

He said he thinks he knows why the women did not come to the ice rink: probably because they thought it was just too hot to leave their homes and drive over.
