CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A young girl who received a new heart one week after a visit from rap star Drake is out of the hospital and will spend the next few weeks at the Ronald McDonald House.

Sofia Sanchez talked Thursday about her experiences and said her new heart "feels better than my other heart."

Dr. Carl Backer, the surgeon who, less than a month ago, transplanted a new heart into the 11-year-old girl calls her “spunky.”

Sofia talked about what got her through while waiting for a new heart.

"I just kept doing the things I like to do like make stuff, play with Slime and all that, and make bracelets and watch Netflix," she said.

When she’s older, Sofia said she’d like to volunteer at Lurie Children’s Hospital.

"I want to come and like, talk to kids who are going to get transplants and say your surgery will go well and you’re going to feel back to yourself and you will be back out there," she said.

The 5th grader is also very grateful, thanking the donor family that provided her new heart, as well as people who sent cards and donated to a GoFundMe page.

She encourages others to think about making organ donations.

"Something bad happens and something good comes out of it. You save somebody else’s life and makes you feel good about it," she said.

Dr. Stuart Berger, Executive Director of the Heart Center at Lurie Children’s Hospital said he's also thankful rap singer Drake visited Sofia and the hospital. Drake has now been "made an honorary member of our Lurie transplant team and we hope he comes back because he uplifted Sofia and he uplifted the entire team."

Sofia Sanchez hopes to be home in time to trick-or-treat on Halloween. She said she doesn't know what kind of costume she'll wear, but she says it'll "probably be scary."
