OAK BROOK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police say the Louis Vuitton store at Oak Brook Center was the victim of a smash-and-grab overnight, even though the store took steps to try to thwart thieves after a similar incident.

It was almost four years ago when thieves smashed a van through the doors of the Louis Vuitton store at Oak Brook and got away with $120,000 in merchandise.

Then, police say posts were put up outside the store to try to keep it from happening again.

But it happened again, early Tuesday. Oak Brook Police Officer Garrett Church says this time it was a white GMC Terrain that did the smashing.

"This time the offending vehicle was able to drive up through some shrubbery and get behind those posts, and made a maneuver to get into position and ram their way into the building,” he said.

Officer Church said the three masked thieves made off with more than $50,000 in merchandise. They left the GMC in the store and fled in a white Buick.
