CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Organizers of the Women's March to be held this weekend in Geneva say they are planning for 3,000 to 5,000 participants.

It starts at 10 a.m. Saturday with a rally.

"There's a strong sentiment and energy to have a women's march and capitalize on everything, the second wave of the women's movement that happened in January of 2017,” one of the organizers, Leah Beck, said.

The decision was made about a month ago to not have a march in Chicago.

The national movement has struggled to shake off an association with National of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan and allegations of anti-Semitism.

Beck said the Fox Valley Women's March is not affiliated with the national Women's March movement.

"And strategically, we chose not to affiliate with the national organization because of that,” she said.
