(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The ongoing dispute between Evanston and Skokie over the price of water is going to federal court.

The suit charges that on Oct. 1, Evanston tripled the price it charges Skokie for water while agreeing at the same time to low-ball rates for new customers.

Skokie Village Attorney Michael Lorge argues that it’s not just unneighborly. He said it’s discriminatory and unconstitutional.

“Because you happen to control the water doesn’t mean you get to charge monopolistic rates that you need or want for your own budgeting reasons,” he said.

The Skokie suit seeks an order that requires water be delivered to all customers at a uniform rate.

Evanston city officials have declined comment.
