CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Airlines are seeing the number of passengers rise slowly, after the COVID-19 outbreak led to a huge drop in air travel.

The number of passengers has been increasing, too, at Midway Airport, though it's still only a fraction of pre-pandemic levels.

Eduardo Ibarra of the South Side was waiting for his parents flying in from Mexico, and he admits he's concerned about them contracting COVID-19 while traveling.

As for himself, Ibarra says he doesn't feel comfortable flying yet.

Last weekend, the Transportation Security Administration says it screened nearly 1 million passengers at U.S. airports, which is about twice the number it screened during the first weekend of May.

The airline industry reports that on the busiest travel day last month, the number of passengers was only 14% of what it was on the busiest day in May of last year.
