CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Hundreds of members of the Service Employees International Union hosted a get-out-the-vote rally for Democrats in the Loop Saturday morning.

The political gathering at the Chicago Temple near Daley Plaza served as a Gov. Bruce Rauner-bashing event and a call to union members to get busy organizing for Democrats as Election Day, Nov. 6, draws near.

J.B. Pritzker, the headliner, said Republican Rauner “is a desperate man.”

“He’s willing to say anything. He’s willing to do anything, he’s willing to pretend to be anything to try to get re-elected,” said the Democrat, accompanied by his running-mate, Juliana  Stratton.

SEIU President Tom Balanoff seemed to forget he was on the altar in a Church when he said Rauner “can go to hell.”

“Oops,” he said, “I don’t know if I can say that here.”

Among other Democrats present was U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois.

Rauner is seeking a second term in the governor’s mansion. He says Pritzker is trying to raise taxes on everyone while seeking to avoid paying property taxes himself.
