CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The superintendent of Plainfield School District 202 has apologized for Tweeting a photo of himself and other staff members wearing sombreros and ponchos and sporting fake mustaches.

"What a good lookin group... Happy Halloween" is what the Tweet said.

Someone complained, and now Plainfield District 202 Superintendent Dr. Lane Abrell has apologized for the photo, explaining: "An employee of Hispanic/Mexican descent chose the costume and several members who dressed up are of Hispanic/Mexican descent as well as others of non-Hispanic descent.

"They invited me to join them and I did so in the spirit of the day and to build camaraderie among our staff.

"Neither they nor I meant any offense to anyone."

The Plainfield School Board president, Greg Nichols, stands by the superintendent.

“Dr. Abrell did not intend to offend anyone, though he has acknowledged that this may have been misconstrued. Additionally, he has apologized for any offense taken."
