(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Worried students and parents took to social media Wednesday morning, after a security system inside Lyons Township High School in Western Springs told students to go to classrooms and lock the doors.

The PA system notification from the Blue Point security system came at 9:25 a.m.

"We probably had over 100 calls from parents alone," Western Springs Deputy Police Chief Daniel Albrecht said.

It took about an hour to clear the lockdown and determine the reason the newly installed Blue Point system warned of a situation.

He said there was a drill the day before at the school, which went off without a hitch. As installers were putting the Blue Pont system in another area of the school, they tripped a false alarm, Albrecht said.

Albrecht said 30 to 50 officers swarmed the school.

The Blue Point system is new this year in many schools. The purpose is to make it easier for students and teachers to call police if they see an armed intruder.
