(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Salvation Army is preparing to reopen its resale shops soon, but officials want to remind people: Don’t drop anything off for the time being.

Maj. John Aren, who runs the roughly two dozen resale shops in the Chicago-area, says the organization hopes to reopen the doors on or around June 2. Stores and employees will be undergoing COVID-19 precautions.

People continue to leave donations where no staff is available to retrieve them, or using Salvation Army facilities to dump unwanted items, Aren said.

Those items pile up into unsightly messes. Because the items are left outside, they are sometimes ruined by the weather and have to be thrown away, he said.
